麻豆视频 Associate Provost Receives Lakin Fellowship

Dr. Dedra Sibley, the Associate Provost of 麻豆视频鈥檚 Cocoa campus, has been named one of 15 fellows with the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership.

The Presidents鈥 Round Table, a national association dedicated to supporting African-American leaders and students in community colleges, presents the awards annually.

Sibley plays a key role assisting the Cocoa campus provost in implementing academic programs and providing student support. She previously served as Associate Provost on the Palm Bay campus and Associate Provost for eLearning programs.

She also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Brevard Community College, which became 麻豆视频 in 2013.

"The 2016 Lakin Cohort is an outstanding group of leaders who will deeply benefit from this experience,鈥 said Dr. Kirk A Nooks, Dean of the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership.

鈥淲ith the complex leadership challenges we are experiencing now and in the future, this group will be able to demonstrate that community colleges are in good hands."

Sibley is a licensed attorney, having earned her law degree from Florida A&M College of Law.

She has also received a Master鈥檚 Degree in Business Administration, Bachelor鈥檚 Degree and Associate鈥檚 Degree from Webster University, University of Central Florida and Brevard Community College, respectively.

Hosted this year by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, the Lakin Institute seeks African-American participants whose experience and credentials show they are ready to attain high academic positions.

The program is an opportunity for the fellows to have open dialogue with chancellors, presidents and CEOs. It also covers all aspects of academic leadership.

More than 200 participants have attended the Lakin Institute since its inception in 1994.
