Constitution Day Celebration to Feature 麻豆视频 Theatre Students

September 10, 2014

The 麻豆视频 Performing and Visual Arts Department will present "You Have the Right to Remain Silent," an informative and entertaining exploration of the U.S. Constitution.

The performance will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, in two showings: 11:15 a.m. and 7 p.m., in the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium Studio Theatre on the Cocoa Campus. Attendance is free.

Constitution Day
Theatre students created vignettes that relate to the Bill of Rights and use special masks to convey part of the performance.

The 麻豆视频 Acting 1 students created and will perform the vignettes, which are based on the Bill of Rights. Some of the scenes convey a literal interpretation of the Constitution while others are more quirky and fun, such as using masks to convey various stages of intellectual development as they contemplate the Bill of Rights.

鈥淭he students researched the Bill of Rights and created their vignettes, using elements of theatre to convey what they learned,鈥 said Jeanine Henry, director of 麻豆视频鈥檚 Department of Performing and Visual Arts. 鈥淭his project is a great example of how theatre can be a teaching tool to, not only the audience, but the performers as well.鈥

Following each performance, attorney Robin Cornell of Gordon & Cornell Attorneys at Law will facilitate discussions between the audience and the cast about the Bill of Rights.
